Home Tour

As you may have seen on IG, we are finally in a new place! Aside from the mouse who made himself at home, we have been absolutely loving it here. I will write up a post about how we got into this place over the next few weeks so stay tuned for that, but for now… I want to show you how I have furnished the place. I am proclaiming myself to be the ~queen of making a space cozy and furnished in under 2 weeks~. Ok, that’s a bit wordy so let’s call it a working title…

Anyways, since we moved in with NOTHING (I’m talking we had to buy a blanket so we could sleep on the floor and use camping chairs in the living room kind of nothing) , it has been a process of intentionally rebuilding and purchasing quality furniture. It’s freakin’ expensive to furnish a place… let alone TWICE in less than a year. If you saw the place we left due to mold, you know how much time and care I put into curating that space so letting go of all of that was a bit tough (financially more than anything else, if we’re being honest). However, it was also so liberating to realize what we truly need and want in our lives and to reduce the clutter that so easily adds up. Plus, I am trusting that the Universe will provide on the financial side so all in all, I’m feeling pretty good about things.

My goal with this space was minimal + quality + relatively timeless. I am still learning about how to furnish the best home with the cleanest brands while not breaking the bank. Given that we had no furniture, I was in a bit of a hurry to get some basic items so I would love to know if you have any other tips or suggestions so that I can continue to learn and share with you guys!

The place isn’t completely done so I will do a full video tour once we are officially settled in but for now, here is what we have!

Criteria that I looked for:

  • Zero/low VOC *doesn’t always mean it’s the cleanest, so look at all other aspects of the item

  • Organic + natural materials like wool, cotton and latex

  • No glues, chemicals, wrinkle protection, foams, or synthetic materials

  • Oeko-Tex certified

  • GOTS certification

  • Made-safe certification

  • GreenGuard Certified

Full transparency, some items I just couldn’t afford the best quality so it is what it is but I still tried to find the best option that didn’t clearly have any of the issues listed above. I am picking my battles and trusting that my body is strong enough to handle a few items that aren’t absolutely perfect.

A quick reminder - as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Some of these links may earn me a small commission if you choose to purchase through them. It does not raise the cost for you and even though the amounts are small, they add up and any amount really does help! Being self employed and having to work while healing + pay for legal fees from moving out of our last place, medical bills + furnish the new place can be a lot so I wanted to let you know I am beyond grateful any time you choose to purchase through or share a link of mine.

some Brands that are listed below…

  1. Article

    1. It varies on their products but in the sofa I chose, they use plywood instead of particle board (which is known to off-gas) and avoid harmful chemicals in the foam filling. They test all furniture for formaldehyde and avoid using chemicals unless absolutely necessary in the manufacturing process; I am not sure what that occasion would be so it’s important to check depending on what items you are looking at from them.

  2. Full Circle

    1. I love how all of their products are thoughtfully and sustainably made while also being super easy to clean / clean with!

  3. Simply Bamboo

    1. This is the best small family-owned brand and let me tell you, their sheets are SO comfortable. They use all organic bamboo, are Oeko-Tex certified, and eco friendly. I decided to go with bamboo because it naturally repels bacteria, dust, mold, and mildew and is antibacterial and hypoallergenic. My skin and hair are so much happier when I wake up in the morning and I love supporting a smaller company making a great product.

  4. Avocado

    1. This is one of the few really clean mattress brands out there, at a more reasonable price than most. Made from GOTS certified cotton, latex, and wool, it’s super comfortable and I’m so happy to know that the mattress and frame I sleep on all night aren’t full of toxic glues, metal springs, or pesticides.

  5. Casaluna

    1. A great affordable option conveniently in your local Target. They make bedding, pillows, and bath products and I love how they are all Oeko-Tex and GOTS certified. They are great quality at a great price point in really lovely textures and styles.

  6. AirDoctor

    1. Unlike a lot of other air purifiers, AirDoctor can filter out VOC’s, mold, dust, bacteria etc. They have a carbon and a HEPA filter so all those fine particulates get trapped instead of floating around for you to breathe in.

As of now, that’s the place! I will continue to update and link things out as I get them but I don’t forsee purchasing much more. It has been so incredible to shift my mindset into such intentional purchasing. Yes, oftentimes items are more expensive but since I am not buying randomly, I will end up saving in the long run by investing in quality pieces that are beautiful, functional, and support my health.

I hope this was helpful and as always, if you have questions on an item drop me a comment below!
